Arnold's Roots

One thing I like about Arnold Schwarzenegger is that he has never turned his back on the activity that made him famous: bodybuilding. Having risen from the bodybuilding ranks first into Hollywood and now into the upper reaches of politics, some might expect Arnold to be a bit embarrassed about his origins--especially after the raunchiness of those days became an issue in the recall campaign. Not so, however; he continues to sponsor the Arnold Classic, one of bodybuilding's biggest events. Here he hands out the trophy to this year's winner, Jay Cutler:

On September 30, 2006, the world chose who would take the uber-prestigious title of Mr. Olympia, the world’s Number 1 ranked professional bodybuilder. They chose Jay Cutler. Does that name sound familiar? We’re not surprised ~ Jay was born in Worcester, grew up in Sterling, and has been standing near the apex of professional bodybuilding for some time now. FLEX Magazine compared his Mr. Olympia victory to the toppling of the Berlin Wall. We’d say it’s more like the time that the Red Sox came back from 3 games down to win the ALCS and subsequent World Series title in ‘04. Having placed 2nd ~ on four nonconsecutive occasions ~ to the reigning 8-time champion Ron Coleman, this year Cutler implemented his own style of regime change. Pulse recently had the chance to hear Jay’s thoughts on The Mr. Olympia competition, nutrition, Ipod tunes, the future, and other good stuff. And for more of his advice on nutrition, training regiments, and supplement, check out www.JayCutler.com.

Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped in on the latest Mr. Olympia contest to take a break from politics and pay tribute to the current Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman, who has won the title six straight years.

800 pounds? With multiple reps? Not bad considering that the world record is 1,003 pounds. Ronnie Coleman probably has hung out with Barry Bonds a little too much:

Arnold Schwarzenegger admits past steroid use

Saturday, February 26, 2005
AS a young body builder Arnold Schwarzenegger used experimental steroids on doctors' recommendations, the movie-star-turned California governor admitted in a television interview today, calling for a youth ban on steroids."That's what we did in those days," the star of Terminator said, quizzed on the American ABC network's News This Week with George Stephanopoulos. "But I would strongly recommend that people do not take drugs."Asked on the ABC News program, due to air fully on Sunday, if he had regrets about using steroids, he replied: "No, I have no regrets about it, because at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctor's supervision."We were experimenting with it, it was a new thing."The California governor said that, "absolutely" he planned to advance his own steroid legislation, after his veto of a bill that required high school coaches to teach student athletes the dangers of steroids.Schwarzenegger said he vetoed the bill because performance enhancing food supplements had been included alongside steroids. "It's ludicrous to forbid this for a student to take. Because if you take a protein food supplement that is made out of milk protein, out of milk, or out of soybean, or out of liver or fish that has maybe 90 percent protein, they will enhance your performance. "That's what you need in order to get strong, is protein."The California governor said he would seek a ban on steroids, but without food supplement restrictions. "Of course, we want to keep the sport clean. It says, 'body-building', not 'body-destroying'. "But people should take food supplements, people should be able to take the vitamins and all of the nutritious stuff that is available, but stay away from drugs

Arnold Schwarzenegger pumping iron

I’m talking about the world of bodybuilding. To some, the sight of a massive muscled ripped individual is repulsive. To others it is a thing to behold. I am in the latter category. Just to make it clear that I am not talking about sexual muscle worship here but an admiration and respect for the time, dedication and effort involved in attaining a physique that most people will never ever get anywhere near, myself included.
For any of you that have ever seen the film Pumping Iron you will know what I mean. The perfect symmetry of someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Frank Zane at their peak was and still is hard to better.

7 timre mr. olympia

Thus began, at 16, the career of the greatest bodybuilder of all times, Arnold would be crowned Mr. Olympia for a record seven times. As well as his physique started developing, so did his self-confidence. Very soon he discovered the thing somebody described as the, power of size. Arnold’s muscles grew, so did the respect he was receiving from his peers. The growing of his muscular mass started influencing his relationships with other young men and, of course, with women too. He realized that some women were turned on by his physique, whereas others seemed to be disgusted by it. He wanted to become even bigger, so that I’d be able to really impress the girls who dug muscles and irritate even more the ones who disliked him.
Arnold knew that body building was his ticket to a film career and had good success with Conan, the Barbarian. He found success as an actor in such films as, The Terminator, End of Days, and True Lies to name a few. While he never won any type of award for his acting work, he had the respect of many Hollywood elite for his strong performances in these action films.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is quite possibly the epitome of the body building ideal. When you are serious about your fitness and body building goals, you could do a lot worse than following the advice of the great governor of California!

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most famous body builders around. Perhaps you could even say he is the king of bodybuilding. Arnold Schwarzenegger made body building and weight training a household name, with the release of the 1973 movie ‘Pumping Iron’. Some even say he single handedly made body building an everyday term.
When Arnold first started out in his body building career, he was just a young 98 pound weakling, with determination and brains he quickly grew into a Mr. Universe body. His transformation was an incredible display of muscle building might, along with some amazing dedication.
There is probably no better body building story than that of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He grew up in Austria, even doing a stint in the Austrian army where he weight trained in primitive conditions. He quickly released the best body builders were from America and he moved to sunny California, working a variety of jobs. The entire time, he was also devoting all his off hours to honing and sculpting his body. In 1970, he was awarded the ultimate body building title of, Mr. Universe, and helped pioneer the sport.
When Arnold was 13, he played soccer, but felt very dissatisfied with a team sport. He didn’t like the fact that he relied on others who could let him down and he could not be personally gratified. He tried other sports such as track and field, boxing and the javelin throw. But only when his coach suggested he tried working with weights to strengthen his legs, that Arnold found his true vocation.
When Arnold first walked into a gym he was literally awed, he stated, I found myself in a gym, in awe of muscles I had never seen before and of which I didn’t even know the correct name. The bodybuilders were powerful, Herculean. Before my very eyes, my true future opened up, I had found the answer I had been looking for.

Arnold Schwarzenegger being Governor

There’s a lot you can say about Arnold Schwarzenegger being Governor of California, but to his credit, he doesn’t have a bad record on global warming and emissions. Not only has the state passed tough CO2 emissions laws, it is now suing six carmakers for the costs associated with the emissions their cars produce. It sounds extraordinary, but then so did suing big tobacco.

The Art and Science of Bodybuilding

Arnold, training hard in his home town of Asgard.
This article is “Bodybuilding 101: The Art and Science of Bodybuilding”. This article is a departure from the vast majority of my articles, it is meant to be informative and answer some of your questions about the widely misunderstood sport of bodybuilding. I will clear up misconceptions, give you the basics of how to get involved and explain the basic principles so that if you choose (If you are any sort of man you should immediately start) you can change your body and finally look like a man instead of a soft pastry. The first thing that must be said about bodybuilding is that it is an exercise in discipline. You may think that bodybuilders and guys who are interested in getting bigger just go to the gym, take some drugs and get huge. That thought could not be further from the truth. I will break down the training schedule, diet and other requirements it takes to become a man and get big.
